Residual ultimate strength of ship plates under cyclic in-plane compressive loading

A simplified method was provided for analyzing the residual ultimate strength of ship plates under in-plane cyclic compressive load based on the plastic deformation accumulation, by using compressive thin-plate elastic large deflection theory and rigid-plastic analysis. Three typical steps including loading, plastic flow and unloading step were distinguished in the cyclic compressive loading process. The results based on the simplified method can meet with the existing experiment phenomenon much better. The last, a real ship plate was used to discuss whose residual ultimate strength behavior under in-plane cyclic compressive loading by the simplified method and nonlinear finite element method (FEM), and the both results can match each other well. ©, 2015, Huazhong University of Science and Technology.
