:
Lane width is an important geometric characteristic of roadway and it can impact traffic performance significantly. Lane width reduction in exclusive car lane can save land resource and balance the traffic demand and supply. We aim at analyzing the impact of lane width on performance in the exclusive car circumstance in this paper. Empirical data acquired from trajectory data and loop detector are analyzed. The lateral position distribution of moving cars and capacity reduction are discussed for various lane widths. The results indicate that the lane width can influence traffic performance significantly and the influence level increases with decreasing lane width. The results can be referred as the basis of highway design and traffic management. © Copyright.
