Microstructure and mechanical properties of C-Si-Mn TRIP steel prepared by hot rolling

To reveal the relationship between the microstructure, mechanics properties and the process, a TRIP steel was prepared by hot rolling and controlling cooling in laboratory. The microstructure of the steel was studied by OP, SEM and TEM. The results of tensile tests indicated that the mechanics properties of experimental TRIP steels were tensile strength of 605 MPa, yield strength of 440 MPa, high elongation of 28.4% and ratio of yield strength to tensile strength of 0.73. The results indicated that the microstructure was composed of ferrite, bainite and retained austenite. The results of quantitative colour metallography showed that retained austenite fraction was around 5.6%.
