Considering to the weakness of solar adsorption cooling system with a view to the intermittent characteristics, which can not refrigerate in daytime, a new adsorption bed of vacuum tube cooled by water flow is proposed and a continuous cycle operation for the adsorption bed with active carbon fibre (ACF)-methanol as adsorption-refrigerant pair is achieved. Two kinds of experiments have been performed: intermittent cycle that adsorption beds are cooled by nature convection and continuous cycle that adsorption bed is cooled by water flow. Temperature, pressure, tube temperature and performance coefficiency (COP) of the system are measured and analysed under different conditions. The results show that COP of continuous cycle is 6%-24% more than that of intermittent cycle.
