摘要
In order to achieve energy-saving, a wake-adapted method is developed to design highly efficient contra-rotating propellers. Firstly, the wake field at the propeller plane of a container ship is obtained through model test, and then the wake field induced by the corresponding full scale vessel is calculated by using ITTC empirical formula. Both the forward propeller and aft propeller are designed based on the theory of propeller vortex. Interaction between the forward propeller and the aft propeller is estimated through the induced velocities which are regarded as part of the wake field, and the surface panel method is utilized to predict unsteady hydrodynamic performance. It is shown through an example that, with the same design method and at the same design advance speed, the efficiency of contra-rotating propeller is 12.09 percent higher than the single propeller. © 2015, Editorial Office of Ship Building of China.
