摘要
An axisymmetric jet of pure helium issuing into ambient air is experimentally investigated. Fast flow visualizations associated with laser Doppler velocimetry measurements are used to study the effects of strong density variations on the dynamics of the instabilities, which develop in the near-field of the jet. Thanks to several typical space-time diagrams, made by image processing techniques, the characteristic global mode of the jet instability is highlighted and the effects of pairing processes and buoyancy on this instability mode are analyzed.
