Development and Effectiveness Verification of a Remote Control Simulator for Enhancing Remote Robot Control Skill

In this study, we developed a virtual simulator to enhance the remote robot operation skills. To ensure similarity between the simulator and the operation of actual robot, disturbances such as video transmitted through the network, delay in robot control commands, and image distortion were implemented. Additionally, the effectiveness of the study results was verified by conducting a controlled robot control experiment between people who used the simulator and people who did not. The results demonstrated that individuals who used the virtual simulator yielded better performance in terms of encountering fewer collisions and stops, as well as reduced travel times when control the real robot. © ICROS 2024.
