Just-in-Time is an established instrument to reduce waste and resource commitment. While it is widely discussed in the literature, the extension of this concept - known as Just-in-Sequence - has never found broader attention. This paper analysis the application of Just-in-Sequence as a method to shift handling efforts to upstream echelons in a supply chain. Thereby the assembly-adjusted sequencing is the key to process optimization due to lead-time reduction and stabilization concerning work-in-progress-inventories along interorganizational interfaces in production networks. © Carl Hanser Verlag.
