Photocatalytic degradation of Rose Bengal using a Z-scheme NiFe2O4/α-Fe2O3 heterojunction composite obtained by the Pechini method

摘要
This study investigates the relationship between the concentration ratios of Fe:Ni wt% of 60.5:39.5 and 70.5:29.5 in the synthesis of NiFe2O4/alpha-Fe2O3 heterojunction composites (NFHCs) by the Pechini method and their photocatalytic performance for the degradation of Rose Bengal (RB). Results indicate the presence of NiFe2O4 and alpha-Fe2O3 phases in NFHCs formed by octahedral and icosahedral particles with sizes from 20 to 1200 nm. The NFHC, with a Fe:Ni ratio of 70.5:29.5 wt%, achieved a superior RB degradation efficiency of 93 % after 120 min of solar irradiation. This performance was attributed to alpha-Fe2O3 acting as an electron mediator in the Z-scheme heterojunction mechanism.
