The effects of thermal aging at temperatures up to 700°C on the hardness and microstructure of alloy 617, alloy 230, Allvac 718Plus and HAYNES 282 alloy are presented, and the phases observed in the microstructures after aging are compared with thermodynamic predictions. The implications of the microstructural changes for the prediction of the long term mechanical behaviour of the alloys in power plant are discussed. It was found that all the alloys exhibited good thermal stability with no significantly deleterious effects on the mechanical properties expected. © 2012 Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining and W.
