Analysis on UHV substation lightning intruding over-voltage considering power frequency voltage

The power frequency voltage is not under consideration in regulations for calculating lightning over-voltage in China. To research the effect of power frequency voltage on lightning over-voltage, we constructed a PSCAD/EMTDC model basing on Huainan 1000 kV UHV substation. The results indicate that this kind of effect is too remarkable to ignore. Consequently, three methods to consider power frequency voltage are discussed, i.e. uniform distribution method, normal distribution method and proportional distribution method. They result in different over-voltages, 2364, 2459 and 2271 kV, respectively. Through comparison, proportional distribution method is relatively reasonable, and it is recommended in UHV substation insulation design.
