Parking guidance information system (PGIS) can guide the drivers to park as quickly and accurately as possible, it also relieve the traffic pressure due to parking. Wireless sensor network (WSN) is applying in various fields for its low-cost, low power-consumption and easy installation. Therefore, WSN-based PGIS can obtain great benefits. In this paper, the advantages of the PGIS are briefly described, the main problems of traditional PGIS data collection methods are discussed and the architecture of the PGIS is outlined, parking lots and road networks are separately divided into several WSNs, hardware design of sensor node and sink node is described with the purpose of reducing the power-consumption and decreasing the cost of WSN, TDMA is compared with CDMA while used in the PGIS, and time slots are introduced to assign to the sensor node. Frame structure and format are given. Finally, the future research on wireless sensor network for parking guidance information system is also predicted.
