摘要
This paper proposed a new kind of converters which are suitable for wind power transmission over long distance. The converters are composed of voltage source converters (VSC) and line commutated converters (LCC), and the capacity of VSC and LCC are about 1/4 and 3/4 of the total capacity respectively, and which is denoted as voltage source converter-PLUS (VSC-PLUS) in this paper. The VSC-PLUS combines the advantages of VSC and LCC, not only has the function of self-commutating and black-start, but also has the characteristics of low loss at high voltage. So the VSC-PLUS can be connected with the wind farm directly to transmit wind power distantly. The topology and control strategy of VSC-PLUS were described. The abilities of VSC-PLUS such as operation in steady state, performing black start, reversing power flow and blocking DC fault current have been validated by simulations in PSCAD/EMTDC. Results show that the VSC-PLUS are especially suitable for transmitting wind power distantly, and have large potential values in industrial applications. © 2014 Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering.
