Application of fusing mechanism in the continuous rigid frame bridge with rocking piers

Research purposes: In order to improve the seismic capability of continuous rigid frame bridge, a new continuous rigid frame bridge system was proposed with fusing mechanism by adding a pair of reinforced concrete elements (called the fuse) at the end of the bridge pier in cross-bridge. Research conclusions: (1)By comparison of the seismic demand and bridge pier damage of the new structure system and the traditional structure under low-lever earthquake, design earthquake and high-lever earthquake, it was found that the new structure system had good seismic performance. (2) By studying the destruction of concrete and hysteresis curve of steel bar of the fuse, it was illustrated that after the fuse failure occurred under strong earthquake, the energy dissipation and the rocking of piers could reduce the input of the energy. The fusing mechanism can protect the bridge from almost no damage under the low-lever earthquake, and put the extent of damage and damage range to a minimum under design earthquake and high-lever earthquake.
