Characterization of CaCu3Ti4O12 varistor-capacitor ceramics by impedance spectroscopy

The varistor-capacitor property of CaCu3Ti4O 12 ceramics has been characterized by a combination of ac impedance spectroscopy and dc measurement. The results demonstrate that the non-Ohmic property and ultrahigh dielectric constant of CaCu3Ti 4O12 ceramics are associated with the grain-boundary behavior. The I-V and C-V characteristics of grain-boundary regions in CaCu 3Ti4O12 ceramics are explained on the basis of a back-to-back potential barrier model. We suggest that the origin of the potential barrier is related to Cu ions segregated to grain boundaries. © 2006 American Institute of Physics;
