Prospects analysis of energy storage application in grid integration of large-scale wind power

It is known that, for a power system of concentrated large-scale wind power integrated, the wind power's static output and dynamic response characteristics have issued major new challenges to the adequacy of power supply and the security and stability of operation. On the other hand, owing to their time shift capability with respect to power and energy, various energy storing devices are effective means of improving conventional power generation's static output and wind power's dynamic response characteristics. This paper discusses the basic ideas, problems and prospects in energy storage application for large-scale grid integration of wind power. © 2013 State Grid Electric Power Research Institute Press.
