A comprehensive analysis of the literature forms the basis for comparing different processes that are utilized to estimate the nutrient supplies in flowing bodies of water. A brief description of the individual processes, using standardized criteria, is followed by a comparison and evaluation of their practicability in water management, particularly with regard to the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD). © 2007, Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden.
