Study on Train Management Strategies with Respect to Research and Development, Operation and Maintenance from Integration of Locomotives with Vehicles

At present, the research and development of locomotives and vehicles are done separately. By showing the shortcomings of such separate development, and by analyzing the typical in-train coupling relationships such as air coupling, mechanical coupling and and electric-magnetic coupling in the train workshop, and optimizing the respective matching relationships, the paper proposed the train management strategies with respect to research and development and operation and maintenance from integration of locomotives with vehicles on the platform of work mechanism innovation and standard system construction. By the application of the strategy to the EMU, the train showed better indexes on safety, ride quality and comfort. By the application of the strategy to the heavy-haul freight train, especially in finding solutions to large train slack action and high operation precision requirements for driver control, some approaches were found from the perspective of the increase of brake performance, optimization of coupling performance and installation of on-board train monitoring devices. Analysis of the effects of such approaches in improving the train ride stability and safety was also included. © 2023 Science Press. All rights reserved.
