摘要
In order to study the compressive strength of swelling soil and the relationship between shear strength and compressive strength, the direct shear test was carried out at low density and stress and the unconfined compression test at low density, and the effects of the dry density and water content on the compressive strength and shear strength of shallow expansive soils were investigated. Then, the relationship between compressive strength and shear strength was built based on the results of the unconfined compression test and shear test, and a mathematical model was established for the relationship between water content w, compressive strength qu, matrix suction Ψ and internal friction angle φ. The results show that the shear and compressive strength of shallow expansive soils increase with increase of the dry density under the same conditions of moisture content. At the same dry density, the shear and compressive strengths of shallow expansive soils both increase firstly and then decrease with the increase of the moisture content, showing an obvious non-linear relationship. The obtained model between water content w, compressive strength qu, matrix suction Ψ and internal friction angle φ can provide a reliable calculation method for predicting the compressive strength of shallow swelling soils. © 2023 Central South University of Technology.
