摘要
In this study, a new cooling method called the cascade desiccant cooling system (CDCS) is proposed to reduce building energy consumption. CDCS, which operates on a similar principle as conventional electric air conditioners, differs by employing an evaporative condenser instead of an air-cooled condenser, and integrates desiccant cooling to enhance the performance of the evaporative condenser. To explore the compatibility of CDCS with solar thermal sources, an experimental demonstration was conducted, and its efficiency was compared to that of a conventional electric heat pump (EHP) through simulations. CDCS operated well during the experimental period with an average COP of 4.66, resulting in an average daily energy saving of 100.12 MJ while utilizing solar thermal sources. Additionally, the simulation results confirmed that CDCS can save 29.8% more energy compared to EHP. © 2024 Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers. All rights reserved.
