The change in society and in the industrial ecosystem is leading to a change and further development of products, business models and the companies themselves for many companies in the manufacturing industry. This transformation requires a holistic approach: business engineering. In the article, the application to the industrial ecosystem “battery industry” is exemplified by explaining the business engineering approach and experiences from industrial practice are presented. © 2024 Walter de Gruyter GmbH.
