Since 1993 Siemens AG has used the software tool Sicar® Master for planning of overhead contact line installations. Software structure and options for configurations enabled planning of differing overhead contact line types as well as adjustments to the needs of specific projects. The increasing portion of international projects required further flexibility in the planning and construction processes and the software utilized for these tasks. For this purpose, fixedly implemented selection and decision functions were replaced by more flexible, openly configurable program routines. Therefore, adjustment of the software to the necessities of each individual project can be carried out by the contact line experts themselves. Meanwhile some European railway entities have used the software package for their own planning and documentation purposes.
