In this survey we focus on a variety of sensor nodes deployment algorithms that have been proposed and studied by researchers through the years. Some recent development of this research topic is introduced in a classified manner. We discuss the random deployment, incremental deployment and movement-assisted deployment algorithms and make comparisons between them in term of features, pros and cons, etc. Some related research topics such as the sensor model, localization techniques, communication range and sensing range, convergence and termination conditions are investigated in detail. © 2009 Asian Network for Scientific Information.
