This paper addresses the problem that some optimum or suboptimum detectors are difficult to adapt to the transient clutter environment. Firstly, a generalized range-spread detector based on variable parameter is proposed, and it adapts to the clutter characteristics by adjusting the parameter. Secondly, the empirical formula of the optimal parameter of the detector is determined, and it conforms to the numerical result. Finally, the performance of the detector is analyzed by the simulation experiment. The simulation results show that the proposed detector, which has adaptive properties for the temporal and spatial gradation, exhibits better detection performance than existing detectors in transient clutter environment between Gaussian and non-Gaussian clutter. © 2018, Editorial Dept. of JA.
