摘要
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different levels of corn straw particles on the properties of MDP (Medium Density Particleboard). For the production of the panels Eucalyptus grandis and straw of Zea mays L . were used. The treatments consisted of different percentages of corn straw particles mixed with eucalyptus particles in the core of the panels (25%, 50 %, 75% and 100% of corn straw), panels with 100% Eucalyptus grandis particles (control) and 100% straw particles. The panels were made with a nominal density of 700 kg.m-3, face/core/face of 20:60:20, 11% urea-formaldehyde adhesive to the face and 7% for the core, specific pressure of 3,92 MPa, temperature of 160 °C and pressing time of eight minutes. As the percentage of corn straw was increased in the panels, there was also an increased water absorption and thickness swelling, while the mechanical properties decreased. There was no statistical difference between treatments with 100% of particles of Eucalyptus grandis and 25% of corn straw in the core of the MDP for the evaluated physical and mechanical properties, with the exception of the MOR. Further research is needed, aiming to facilitate the use of this waste by evaluating: adhesive content, paraffin use and extractives and others.
