Rexam, the fifth largest consumer packaging group, denied speculation about its $6 billion bid to purchase US packaging giant, Crown Cork & Seal. The company clarified that its position was to consolidate itself in the US beverage market. The purchase of Crown Cork & Seal was ruled out as it required the selling of plants to meet European Commission regulatory approval.
