Europe's lightweight coated (LWC) paper producers are holding on to the 4-11% price rises achieved achieved at the beginning of the year 2001 but the buyers may lobby for a price cut with the producers before the end of the half year price contracts. LWC is under pressure from weakening prices in the coated woodfree market while market conditions for coated fine paper remain weak. The slowdown has manifested itself in the LWC sector in the form of lower advertising and reduced pagination in magazines.
