摘要
Adaptive control of structural systems and advances in computational design open up new possibilities in architectural and construction processes to provide different solutions to users' problems caused by various outside influences. This methodological design shift from simple mass-production to complex masscustomisation principles enables adaptation and overall control of any given functional or environmental condition as well as the generation of high quality finished products. Within this framework, the present research describes a hierarchical design strategy for the production of an adaptive and yet complex nonstandard structure based on bottom-up design logic. The suggested system consists of individual structural units that interact with each other and are controlled at local level through structural behavioural rules based on parametric and physics-based simulation. The ultimate aim is to achieve global design, construction and kinetic control of the proposed adaptive outcomes whilst at the same time exhibiting self-organised behaviour. © 2015 IASS.
