Medway Council are working in partnership with Amey and Transport Operations Research Group (TORG) at Newcastle University to deliver a real time air quality monitoring and air quality and congestion prediction system. The objective is to provide wide- area coverage of air quality measurements across Medway's key traffic routes and associated Air Quality Management Areas, taking readings and analyzing data at a real time rate minute by minute, suitable to build up a comprehensive picture of the impact traffic congestion has on air quality. The system architecture is designed to separate support for the analysis and further research activities and the operational activities. The mote network is being deployed using the shared communications infrastructure being developed as part of the overall QPTC scheme. The air quality monitoring and prediction system is currently in a deployment phase alongside the rest of the QPTC scheme.
