An equivalent mechanics model for the dynamic analysis of hoop truss structures

Based on energy equivalence principle, a dynamic modeling method is presented for the hoop truss structure with periodic square unit. The displacement of any point in the periodic unit subjected to kinemaical assumptions are formulated through the displacement and strain components at the center of unit. Considering that the strain energy and kinetic energy of the periodic unit are the same as an equivalent beam segment in the same displacement filed, the elastic and inertial coefficients of the equivalent beam model are analytically expressed in terms of the geometry and material parameters of original periodic unit structure. The comparative analysis of natural vibration between the original hoop truss structure and the equivalent beam model shows the accuracy and the effectiveness of the proposed method.
