Bearing capacity analysis of partial concrete encased steel composite columns

Based on the analysis of the common steel-concrete column, a kind of partial concrete encased steel composite columns has been put forward. The mechanical behaviors of partial concrete encased steel composite columns were discussed. Concrete is poured into the type of composite column's U-shape section. The web of steel column, flange of steel column and concrete are integrated by shear connectors and work together. The finite element modes of composite columns were built. The bond-slip constitutive relations between section steel and concrete in a composite column were analyzed, and the nonlinear analysis of the common steel column and the partial concrete encased steel composite columns were conducted. The load-displacement curves were gotten. Influences of several parameters, such as slenderness ratio, and strength of the materials on the force behavior of the composite columns are analyzed. The strength and the stability of partial concrete encased steel composite columns were much higher than that of the common steel column. The smaller the slenderness ratio of composite columns was, the lower the bearing capacity was, but strength of the concrete would scarce affect the bearing capacity of partial concrete encased steel composite columns. Finally, Construction design suggestions and theory study of the type of partial concrete encased steel composite columns are advanced according to the results of analysis and computer simulation.
