摘要
The advent of three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound (US) in clinical use has dramatically improved the technique of prenatal diagnosis. It allows a better understanding of the complex anatomy of the fetus. Ultrasonic detection of certain defect associated with a specific chromosomal abnormality should search for other possibly associated defects and prompt karyotyping. These defects are not only potentially useful genetic markers indicating for karyotyping, but may also lead to the diagnosis of other fetal syndromes. The goal of this study is to determine whether 3D US markers exists or not, can they improve or refine the prenatal diagnosis? In our present study of the fetal ear, analysis and display of 3D volume-rendered images appear beneficial from several aspects when compared with 2D images. The applications of 3D US in the diagnosis of other craniofacial abnormalities, such as micrognathia, microcephaly are also attempted in our institute. In short, 3D ultrasonography may effectively examine the fetal anatomy and provide valuable clinical information for genetic counseling. Since new computer hardware make remarkable improvement in processing time and data transferring rate, we believe 3D US will be applied as a universal screening tool in detecting various fetal anomalies in the near future.
