Some of the new products that are aimed at the automotive transportation market are discussed. ARM's processors and development kits help automotive designers gain better control of software costs by using one compiler, for a variety of applications from electronic brakes, to dashboard and radio. NXP has announced the availability of a FlexRay transceiver, the TJA1080, which has over 20-fold higher gross bandwidth. Freescale Semiconductor has released the advanced MC33879, MC33880, MC33996 and MC33999 octal serial switch that are designed to manage control of multiple high side loads with reduced board space and enhanced automotive electronics system. Texas Instruments is sampling the TMS470PLFx1 series of automotive MCUs that possess a set of intelligent peripherals dedicated to body applications and offer message handling capabilities.
