摘要
A method was proposed for surface modification of carbon black using commercially available reagents and a process bi-products. The method used carbon black, dicumyl peroxide (DCP), process bi-products (PP), and N-1,3-dimethyl-butyl-N'-phenyl-paraphenylene diamine. The carbon black was mixed with 10g of PP in acetone in the presence of DCP or in 6PPD in a physical blending process at room temperature. The method included air-drying and heating of mixture at a suitable temperature, extraction of the treated black with acetone, and drying in vacuum at 50. The gravimetric analysis was used to determine the percent attachment of organic fatty acids with carbon black on modification. The XPS analysis was performed to determine the carboxylic groups within the modified carbon black surface. The modified blacks showed lower analytical properties like tinting strength, DBP absorption, and iodine number.
