Based on the viewpoint of energy equilibrium, energy of sediment entraining from bed surface comes from the flow energy and the consumed energy depends on the relative motion between the flow and particles. A sediment pick-up flux relation is deduced. According to the formula of vertical velocity distribution, the influence factors of the main parameters of the sediment pick-up flux relation are determined. Using the experimental data, the parameters of the sediment pick-up relation are validated. The formula is in good agreement with the experimental data. Compared with other formulas, the accuracy of the established formula is higher. This formula can provide the better boundary condition of sediment concentration on bed surface for sediment-transport mathematical models.
