The need for redesigning and modifying a Toro 151 LHD to accept a linklevel grader attachment and as an affective means toward solving mine road maintenance problems by Durban Roodepoort Deep (DRD) at the Tolukama gold mine (TGM) is discussed. The Toro 151 has a 3,500-kg payload capacity and is designed for narrow-vien mining. A quick-connect hydraulic fittings, a 10-pin plug and base, and the Volvo L70 quick hitch allows fast efficient removal of the linklevel and re-attachment of the original bucket. The company has also introduced safety procedures and equipment for the safe transport of under slung helicopter loads, used to carry personnel, equipment and materials to the TGM.
