The dynamic economic dispatch (DED) among thermal units is one of the most important problems in power systems operation and control. The electric power industry need changes in various power system operation, control and planning activities. Power generating companies (GENCOs) and customers submit bids in advance of each trading transaction, and these bids are matched by the market controller - the ‘independent system operator’ (ISO). Their generators with an objective to maximize their own profit rather than compromising on social benefit. Power and reserve prices become important factors in decision process. The optimization problem faced by the ISO is addressed in very recent literature, and is more realistic than related problems that have been studied in the optimization literature for several years. In this paper we propose a hid-based dynamic economic dispatch model to maximize the social profit in a competitive electricity market using Genetic Algorithm (GA). © 2017, ICPE Electra Publishing House.
