Effects of different tillage and mulching methods on tobacco yield and quality in Luzhou

A 3-year fixed-site field trial was carried out to study effects of different tillage and mulching methods on tobacco yield and quality in Luzhou. Results showed that tillage treatment could effectively improve plant height, stem diameter, pitch, and effective leaf number of tobacco than no-tillage treatment, thus increased tobacco yield and output value. Content of total sugar and reducing sugar was reduced while content of nitrogen, kalium and nicotinamide was increased, which ameliorated tobacco quality. Crop rotation under tillage treatment had significant effects on tobacco yield, output value and quality. Moreover, crop rotation and straw mulching could improve plant height, stem diameter and pitch, which also improved tobacco yield and output value. Therefore, the most appropriate cultivation pattern for tobacco yield and quality should be the crop rotation in the order of green manure-tobacco, green manure/wheat/corn, and green manure-tobacco.
