Gas flow characteristics of high voltage SF6 circuit breaker with energy separated nozzle

In order to effectively control the gas flow movement in vent area and to improve the breaking performance of high voltage switchgear, taking the high voltage SF6 circuit breaker (HV SF6 CB) as the research object, we proposed a novel axial vortex chamber structure with an X-shaped guide blade constructed at the nozzle to exchange the energy of the turbulent gas flow in the radial direction in order to control the gas flow temperature gradient. Then we built a 3D flow field physical and mathematical model of the arc quenching system in 550 kV SF6 CB, and analyzed the influence of the X guide blade at nozzle upstream on the field flow parameters in arc quenching chamber with small capacitive current interruption using the finite volume method. The results show that the flow motion along the wall circumference presents combination vortex with large rotation curvature, thus, flow moves in completely opposite directions and creates the energy separation phenomenon, and the temperature reduces between the contacts. �, 2015, Science Press.
