In the case of home furnishing textiles, developments in fashion take their course in somewhat slower cycles than are found with apparel. Nonetheless, tastes in home furnishing do change over time. For example, it has been possible to detect a clear trend over recent years towards a lighter quality; a trend that naturally had to fit in with a style of furnishing that was cool and somewhat technically oriented. The outcome was a clear drop in sales of traditionally patterned net curtains. Designers have, therefore, been on the lookout for new ways to express themselves, with the particular hope, that they can regenerate interest in the younger generation for fashionable net fabrics. These materials have now taken on a totally new look, one that derives from qualities developed from fine monofilaments of around 20 dtex.
