Double-deck trailercars and driving trailers for Israel railways - Vehicle concept and equipment

Israel Railways have ordered 14 double-deck trainsets from Bombardier Transportation Deutsche Waggonbau GmbH. Each train composition consists of three trailercars and one driving trailer with a diesel-driven generating set for onboard electricity supply of the complete train. The delivery of the vehicles is carried out in the years 2001 to 2002. The air-conditioned vehicles are permitted for a maximum speed of 140 km/h. All coaches have high entries and predominantly opposite seating. To a limited extent the trailers are convertible to transport handicapped travellers. The article describes the development of the Israel railway track network, layout design, coach body, interior design and the equipment of the double-deck trailers.
