Willamette Industries will finalize a deal with the building products division of Georgia-Pacific (GP) to acquire a majority stake of its unit. Willamette has agreed to pay about $3 billion-$3.5billion in cash for a portion of G-P's $7 billion-plus wood business. The deal will help GP to defer taxes and enable Willamette to remain an independent identity.
