The self-developed structure of a bar-type traveling wave ultrasonic motor is presented. Based on vibration wave theory, the motion mechanism of the ultrasonic motor is investigated, and the motion trace of a particle on the surface of the stator end is educed. The existence of traveling waves on the surface is proved and the space distributions of motion traces of some particles on the surface are described. The concept of effective ellipse and optimal contact angle between stator and rotor is put forward, which is offered as theoretical basis for designing the bar-type ultrasonic motor with high efficiency.
