Limonium microcuttings were cultured under photoautrophic, photomixotrophic, and heterotrophic conditions. It was found that plantlets grown under photoautotrophic and photomixotrophic conditions have more leaves with fewer stomata per square millimeter of leaf surfac, as well as higher chlorophyll and sugar contents, and higher net photosynthetic rate than those cultured under heterotrophic conditions. These plantlets acclimatize better and sooner after transfer to ex vitro conditions.
