The assisted-recovery system developed by Honeywell could take control of an aircraft to prevent collision with the ground or an obstacle. The automatic response is triggered based on time to impact and a comparison of information from sensors and a digital terrain database, to ensure such action is necessary. The system initiates automatic pull-up to avoid the terrain or obstacle hazard. Deploying such a system for airline use could be done only on an aircraft with a fly-by-wire flight control system.
