To overcome current image encryption algorithms' lack of security and efficiency, a new one based on hyper chaos is proposed. The algorithm confuses the relationship between the plaintext and the ciphertext by pixel permutation, pixel substitution and ciphertext diffusion. Besides, a new quantification method of hyper chaos sequences is adopted to reduce hyper chaos system's iteration, which leads to an increase of algorithm's efficiency. Comprehensive simulation experiments are performed, and the results show that the proposed algorithm has high security and practicability, and it can be widely applied to the field of secret communication. © 2016, Chinese Institute of Electronics.
