Characterization of heartwood, sapwood and transition wood of jatobá wood (Hymenaea sp) aiming at its grouping in conventional kiln drying

摘要
The aim of this work was to characterize the sapwood, heartwood and transition wood of jatobá wood (Hymenaea sp.), according to some fiber characteristics and physic-chemical properties, aiming at the possibility of grouping these different kinds of wood in the same load for conventional kiln drying. For this length, diameter and wall thickness of the fibers were measured. The chemical properties were contents of holocellulose, Klason lignin, total extractives and ash. The physical properties were specific gravity, moisture content and total shrinkage. According to the results it is only possible to group together in conventional kiln drying transition wood and heartwood.
