摘要
Forestry work has often been painted, mainly by the Impressionists. Silvicultural practices are rarely illustrated, with the majority of the paintings dealing with harvesting (logs, firewood), wood transportation by man or by animal-draught power, often in winter conditions on snowy ground or a frozen river, or by log driving. Fuelwood was a priority until the end of the 19th century. Charcoal and maple sap appear as processes performed on the spot in forests. Modern logging techniques are rarely depicted. © 2020, Ecole Nationale du Genie Rural des Eaux et des Forets. All rights reserved.
