Fabrication and properties of ZrO2/stainless steel functionally graded materials by tape casting method

Zirconia/stainless steel (ZrO2/SUS316L) functionally graded materials (FGMs) were fabricated by the tape casting method. In order to reduce the internal stress of interlaminates, ZrO2/ SUS316L graded layers were designed by using the component distribution function. The results show the relation of the volume ratio of binder and powders (RBP, M) and volume fraction ψ of ZrO2 is M=1.029+1.652. ZrO2/SUS316L FGMs with graded components and better bonding at interlayers were obtained after pressureless sintering in vacuum conditions at 1350C.
