A precast PREFOIL heat exchanger system, a refinement of Harbison-Walker's proven TREFOIL&reg system, for the lime industry which requires less time for installation is discussed. It is observed that the increased surface area of the kiln allows for more transfer of latent heat from the refractory to the load. It is found that the system aids in dividing and mixing the load and exposing more of the load surface to direct heat transfer. It is observed that the specific savings in specific fuel consumption is around 10%.
